Oregon state economist Tom Potiowsky is stepping down to return to Portland State University as chair of the Department of Economics.
For more than a decade, with the exception of a 15-month period in 2006 and 2007, Potiowsky has prepared forecasts of Oregon’s economy and its effects on tax collections and lottery proceeds. His staffers in the Office of Economic Analysis also is responsible for projections of adult inmates in state prisons and young offenders in state juvenile centers.
Potiowsky added Wednesday — jokingly — that improved economic conditions should follow as a result of his departure.
