Portland’s Bureau of Development Services is hiring again, after laying off 150 employees—nearly half its workforce—in 2009.
…Over the next three months, the city’s permitting and inspection agency plans to bring back some former staffers, by making seven recently added temporary positions permanent and creating 11.5 other positions. BDS spokesman Ross Caron said it’s a positive step, but mostly one that will allow the bureau to simply keep pace with demand and not significantly accelerate provision of services.
“Our projection is that the workload will increase slowly over the next fiscal year,” Caron said.
