On a sunny and mild day with fast racing conditions, the 29-year-old American leapt out to a commanding lead with a blazing first run of 1:21.08, placing him 0.93 seconds ahead of second place Ondrej Bank of the Czech Republic. Between runs, the low-key Ligety calmly told reporters that he had enjoyed big leads before and “I have a pretty good track record.”
