Oregon-based Umpqua Bank is opening a new flagship branch in San Francisco’s Financial District.

Customers will find more than Umpqua’s typical coffee bar and direct hotline to the CEO. They’ll be greeted with seven large-screen digital displays, roaming associates toting bluetooth headsets and iPads and tech-laden conference rooms where small businesses can host virtual meetings.

Umpqua’s opening comes at a time most banks are closing branches as customers do more banking via an app or other online device. U.S. bank branch numbers peaked at 99,550 in 2009 and have fallen since to 97,337 through June 2012, the latest data available from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
