Food processors are increasingly locating in the area between east Portland and Gresham.

Not only are local companies filling out menus, they’re filling up household bank accounts: Combined, 10 of the largest food-makers and distributors in Gresham and neighboring communities east of Portland employ roughly 900 people and pay more than $25 million in annual wages and benefits.

Jerry Gardner, business development manager for the Oregon Department of Agriculture, said the area from east Portland through Gresham has everything many food-makers want: excellent transportation infrastructure, affordable land, ready workforce and plenty of low-cost water.
