Holiday travel on the rise


The Pacific region will see an 11.2% increase in holiday travel this winter.

The Pacific region – which includes Oregon, Washington, California, Alaska and Hawaii – is expected to see an 11.2% increase in holiday travel this winter, according to AAA.

A moderate bump is expected nationwide as well, despite the fact that some gas prices are higher this year.

The jump is a sign of increasing consumer confidence, said Marie Dodds, AAA spokeswoman in Oregon. But it also reflects that Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Fridays this year.

“Many people will take advantage of long weekends to travel,” she said.
