Google is moving forward with plans for a new data center in The Dalles that would be much larger than its current two data centers there.

The company opened Oregon’s first big data centers there in 2006, drawn by tax incentives and cheap electricity. It currently has 150 employees and contractors at the 37-acre site, where it operates a pair of 94,000-square-foot data centers.

The new building would be 164,000 square feet, according to plans submitted to The Dalles on May 20. And it would be significantly taller — 75 or 80 feet; the existing buildings are 55 feet-tall. The company will go before the city planning commission Thursday to gauge whether the 80-foot design would comply with city rules.
