Gov. John Kitzhaber plans to sign the benefit companies measure that will allow companies to use a sustainability indicator in their registration info.

Kitzhaber will sign House Bill 2296A, which passed the Oregon House and Senate overwhelmingly last week, on Tuesday. The bill seeks to encourage businesses to become state-recognized “benefit companies” if they meet certain social and environmental performance guidelines. The designation is similar to that of the B Corp. certification awarded by the nonprofit B Lab.
