The federal Environmental Protection Agency declared greenhouse gases a danger to the public, and construction groups worry that the finding could add more obstacles for the already hurting industry.
If rules are instated based on the finding, contractors could face a lengthy review process under the Clean Air Act.
“If you follow the logical conclusion that greenhouse-gas emissions are an endangerment, the next step is just like for any other emission EPA considers an endangerment: you have to get a waiver to work on it,” said Brian Turmail, spokesman for the Associated General Contractors of America.
“It is potentially a very frightening decision.”
