TriMet officials plan to boost ridership in the under-served Hillsboro, the state’s fifth-largest city.

While TriMet’s MAX Blue Line runs deep into the city’s core, bus service hasn’t significantly changed since 1997, according to TriMet planners, before the light-rail trains hummed into downtown Hillsboro.

“Those are growing areas,” TriMet Senior Planner Tom Mills said, even going as far as calling Hillsboro the metro region’s “second city.”

“We need to do a better job in serving those areas,” he said.
