Beaverton-based Electro Scientific Industries is buying Massachusetts-based semiconductor business GSI Group.

ESI, a Washington County company that makes lasers and other manufacturing tools for the electronics industry, is in the process of reorganizing its business after years of erratic performance. It said that GSI’s laser and chip manufacturing products fit neatly with ESI’s own offerings, and will be in demand as the semiconductor industry begins its transition to larger, more efficient 450-millimeter silicon wafers.

ESI did say that it expects the deal will boost its annual revenue by $20 million to $30 million. ESI’s sales have been around $250 million in each of the past two years.
