The Willamette Valley’s reputation for pinot noir is expanding, helping drive economic development in the area.

In a milestone for Oregon’s wine industry, Jackson Family Wines, a prominent Sonoma County, Calif., wine producer, has bought a stake in the Willamette Valley. The company’s first foray into Oregon: the purchase of vineyard property in the Eola Hills, in the same neighborhood as Bethel Heights.

Winemakers view Jackson Family Wines’ purchase not only as an affirmation of the Willamette Valley’s prominence in pinot noir, but as a healthy sign of the wine industry’s expansion into new areas.
