“Overall, the Oregon economy is growing near its average rate since 1990,” [University of Oregon economist Tim] Duy said.

The number of people filing new unemployment claims remained stable in January, he said, while employment service payrolls edged up. Increased hiring of temp workers from employment agencies is generally seen as a positive sign, often preceding an increase in permanent hiring. Manufacturing also saw increased hiring, as well as increases in the number of hours that employees worked, Duy said.
