Oregon’s prison industries operation needs changes to survive, a new Portland State University report says.

The independently-run Oregon Corrections Enterprises employs inmates in factories and businesses inside eight state prisons. The agency, which is self-supporting and receives no taxpayer money, is expected to lose $700,000 this year.

“Squandered opportunities and ineffective practices seriously compromise OCE’s future,” said a report by Portland State University’s Center for Public Service.
