The Oregon Legislature’s chief budget writers will reveal their next two-year budget on March 4.
Sen. Richard Devlin said Monday they will propose more than Gov. John Kitzhaber for state spending on public schools — and that some of that money will result from changes in the public-pension system, plus cuts in other proposed spending.
Devlin and Democratic Rep. Peter Buckley of Ashland, the other co-chairman of the Legislature’s joint budget committee, plan to unveil their budget framework on March 4. Lawmakers do not vote on the budget as a single package, but all the spending they approve for agencies and aid to schools must fit into the framework.
