Newly elected Oregon Republican chairwoman Suzanne Gallagher predicts that the party will register 200,000 more voters, even though GOP registration has dropped recently.

Gallagher made the vow in an interview on KATU’s “Your Voice, Your Vote,” saying, that her “No. 1 priority is to register more Republicans.”

In 2008, GOP registration slipped dramatically to just under 696,000, as a number of voters switched to the Democratic Party to vote in the long presidential primary battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Since then, both the Democratic and Republican parties have lost registrants as voters have increasingly registered as non-affiliated or with the Independent Party of Oregon.
