Excalibur Cutlery & Gifts lost its lease at Washington Square after 30 years, leading the company to file or bankruptcy.
[Owner John] Jost said he would file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Thursday and that his eight stores in Oregon and Washington will close Monday. He said he’s already issued final paychecks to his 50 employees.
The national company that owns Washington Square informed Jost in late December that it wouldn’t renew his lease at the Tigard mall, giving him until Jan 31 to shutter his top-selling shop. Now, Jost says, his 35-year-old business is sunk.
