2013 will be a better year for restaurants, according to the National Restaurant Association.

The state had a total of 8,660 establishments for eating and drinking in 2010. In U.S. Congressional District 5, which includes Marion and Polk Counties, there were 1,484 establishments — or 17 percent of the statewide total.

Those 8,000 Oregon restaurants employed 170,900 people, which equates to 10 percent of total employment statewide. If current trends continue, the report projected that in 2022 the industry would have added an extra 21,600 new jobs, or a 12.6 percent growth.
