United Streetcar delivered the first of five long-delayed streetcars to Portland.

It will be tested for two weeks and put into service February or March.

“Currently we’re looking at having it certified by February 15,” said Rick Gustafson, who heads Portland Streetcar, the non-profit operator. “It could stretch on us, depending on how the tests go.”

United Streetcar, the Clackamas-based company hired as part of a $19.5 million contract with the city of Portland, is woefully behind schedule. United Streetcar is looking to become the only American company to produce a modern streetcar.
