Metro officials consider seeking $15 million in state lottery funds to help fund a proposed hotel at the Oregon Convention Center.

The regional government’s staff in a memo recommended pursuing the funds during the coming legislative session. It would supplement $8 million available for the project through Metro and the Portland Development Commission.

A partnership between Hyatt Hotels, the Schlesinger family of Portland and Mortenson Construction of Minneapolis has proposed a Hyatt-flagged hotel on a Schlesinger-owned site north of the convention center. It said it would need as much as $36.1 million in public funds to make the project feasible, as well as a 30-year rebate on lodging taxes generated by the hotel.
