The Gubser Neighborhood Association in Keizer is turning to a private social networking site to encourage participation.

“Over the past few years, the neighborhood association has seen declining participation,” said Coy, who became president of Gubser in November. “(The neighborhood association) had monthly meetings that covered various topics, but there was never much interest or participation.”

That’s when he heard about Nextdoor.

“It was actually our police department that mentioned (Nextdoor) to me,” Coy said. “I checked into it, and it was everything I’d want for a website and neighborhood association. It’s free, I don’t have to pay subscription fees or design it myself. I see it opening a lot of opportunities.”
