Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates invested another $20 million in software-maker Schrödinger.

Founded in 1990, the company has U.S. offices in Portland and in New York, where Schrödinger president Ramy Farid works. The company’s chief financial officer and about 50 other employees work in the Portland office.

Schrödinger’s software performs sophisticated simulations and analyses to determine how chemicals will react to one another and how drugs will perform. In a statement, Gates said the company’s software could improve the development process for new drugs.
