Lake Oswego and Clackamas River Water Providers won a $115,000 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant in 2010 to buy the unit. The process was slow going, but by March 2012, they bought the Tempest Environmental unit.
A trailer houses the system that pulls water into its series of tanks that disinfect, clean and make the water taste good. The water is then pumped out into taps that residents can use to fill their own jugs, or the water could be pumped into barrels to be hauled where it is needed.
