Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt says he is “very much interested” in moving the Portland Beavers north of the Columbia as owner Merritt Paulson struggles to find them a new home.

“I think it’s a significant opportunity that’s worthy of a conversation in our community,” Leavitt said.

Paulson declined to comment specifically about Vancouver, but said in an e-mail that he is “committed to finding a home for the Beavers.” Sources close to Paulson indicated that he believes Vancouver is a very strong market for Triple A baseball.
