After a recent surplus of Oregon Christmas trees that forced prices down, growers are seeing steady prices and good demand for their trees.
“It’s a difficult task to foresee what the demand will be,” said grower Mark Kintigh of Kintigh’s Mountain Home Ranch, a 100-acre wholesale tree farm in Springfield. “Trying to plan ahead is just an educated guess.”
Oregon’s Christmas tree industry — the largest in the nation — has an annual wholesale value of about $110 million, according to Bryan Ostlund, executive director of the Pacific Northwest Christmas Tree Association. The majority of the state’s 60,000 acres of Christmas trees are in Benton, Clackamas, Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties; Lane County has 2,400 acres.
