Oregon has opportunity to expand its exports and attract manufacturing from Japan and investors from China, say participants in a governor’s trade mission that visited both countries.

Japan’s high yen is pushing manufacturing abroad, and China’s turbulent economy is driving investors offshore, according to business, government and union officials who traveled with Gov. John Kitzhaber Oct. 14-25.

Consumers in both countries — and in Hong Kong, which the delegation also visited — are attracted to Oregon exports, mission members said during a briefing in Portland Thursday. Moreover, Asian tourists are interested in the state.
