Intel’s chief had already given $5,000 to the Romney campaign during this election cycle, and another $40,000 to House Speaker John Boehner and national Republican organizations.
Intel has generally stayed out of political affairs here, though in the 1990s the company campaigned — successfully — for major changes in Oregon’s tax structure. The resulting changes enabled valuable tax exemptions on Intel’s manufacturing equipment and a big cut to its corporate income tax bill.
