Portland-based electric vehicle charging station company OpConnect is launching smartphone payment technology.

OpConnect will offer electric vehicle drivers the option of using an iPhone app or smartphone scanners to both access free electric vehicle charging systems in its system and use the same technology to pay for charging at stations that require payment.

“A complaint we often hear in our industry is that drivers have to carry a RFID device, or a card to access certain stations. OpConnect has always allowed any EV driver access to our stations without the need to pre-register or call a phone number,” said Dexter Turner, OpConnect CEO, in a press release.
