Portland startup Urban Airship is rolling out a location-specific technology that it debuted with an official Olympics app called Join In.
It enables marketers and others to reach smartphone users who are in a specific place — at a sporting event, for example, in a shopping mall, or in a specific neighborhood.
The new service includes “geofencing” to help marketers target appealing locations based on time zones, for example, or zip codes and legislative districts.
