The city council approved the deal Wednesday night, completing negotiations between the city and the international company’s U.S. arm, which”supplied key components of the Albany-Millersburg Water Reclamation Facility, finished in 2009 at a cost of more than $70 million.
The other Siemens components performed well but one, called “Cannibal” and intended to reduce the amount of solids left from the treatment process, did not, the city said, causing it to have to store and then dispose of solids at a cost now amounting to about $500,000 a year.
