Within a month, Gresham’s will be the first wastewater treatment plant in the state, and the second on the West Coast, to feed restaurant grease into its solid waste treatment system, producing enough methane gas to power the entire plant.
In two years, Gresham city officials plan for the plant to meet its 15,000 kilowatt-hour daily need with solar and methane energy, eliminating Portland General Electric bills that without alternative energy would amount to $570,000 a year.
