Texas-based data hosting company Rackspace confirmed it purchased property at the Port of Morrow, but it hasn’t finalized building plans yet.

“We have identified some obvious benefits to adding capacity in the west coast region and we find the benefits to be compelling,” spokeswoman Rachel Ferry wrote in an e-mail. “We have taken steps to help ensure that, if we ultimately determine that it is in our best interest to build a data center on the west coast that we can execute on that strategy.”

Port officials said earlier this month that they were near a deal to sell 99 acres at the port for $2 million to Boardman Acquisition LLC, a holding company for Rackspace. Rackspace holds an option to add 100 acres to the project.

But the port said it had been told Rackspace won’t build right away, and Ferry said that “we do not have any finalized build out or operational plans to share with you for this location or any other west cast location.”
