The federal government granted a waiver to allow Oregon to move ahead on revamping the Oregon Health Plan.

Gov. John Kitzhaber called the agreement with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services a key step forward in the state’s goal to help Oregon Health Plan members become healthier, while at the same time reducing costs.

“This waiver is the final building block to creating a better model of care, and Oregon is ready to demonstrate how local communities can lead the nation in keeping people healthier over the long term in a more effective way,” Kitzhaber said in prepared remarks.
