Eugene-Springfield business owners kept their expectations down after disappointing sales at the last Olympic Trials, but were pleasantly surprised by increases in business this time around.

Business people cite several possible reasons for the increased business:

Trials events are starting later or ending earlier on many days than they did in 2008, giving visitors more time to explore.

Travel Lane County, the local tourism agency, has made a determined effort to push Trials visitors out into the Eugene-Springfield area and the rest of Lane County.
