Bonamici says debris is ‘wake-up call’

With increasing amounts of debris apparently coming from the Japanese tsunami and washing ashore on Oregon’s and Washington’s coast, U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore. wants federal, state and local agencies to step up efforts to keep beaches safe and the public informed.

During a briefing with representatives from several government agencies, cities and organizations in Cannon Beach, Bonamici said the Japanese dock that landed in Newport recently was a “wake-up call” that debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami was arriving.
