Daimler Trucks CEO Martin Daum said if the company hadn’t invested in its Swan Island factory before the recession, the company wouldn’t have stayed.
Its remote location — apart from most of Daimler’s East Coast factories and customers — drove logistics costs as much as $4,000 higher for every truck the plant produced, said Daum.
“If you would build a (truck) plant today in North America, you would never ever consider Oregon or Washington,” he said.
