A proposal is headed to the Portland City Council to charge a 2 percent hotel tax to pay for tourism advertising.

The city’s Revenue Bureau would collect taxes and turn the money over to a Travel Portland subcommittee of hotel representatives, who would determine how to better market travel to Portland.
