Portland chefs and artisans presented their wares in New York at a Travel Oregon-sponsored event called “Oregon Food Assault.”

The event, part tasting, part party, was designed to fete the East Coast food media while drawing attention to September’s inaugural Feast Portland food festival, an ambitious three-day undertaking aiming to become the Northwest’s flagship culinary event.

Feast Portland is part of Oregon’s continued emergence as a culinary destination: Local travel experts say dining and wine are already a primary driver of the state’s $8.8 billion tourism industry. The state’s a red-hot reputation has the New York Times penning glowing reviews of intimate Portland eateries, and restaurants from Seattle to Shanghai are clamoring to serve Oregon wines.
