Eugene will soon have three locations to enjoy food, drinks and vintage arcade games.

Paul Kermizian, who specializes in this entertainment niche, said Eugene seems to be “a boom town” for combination bar/arcades. He is owner of Barcade, which opened in Brooklyn in 2004. Barcade was not the first bar to offer classic arcade games, but it may have been the first to offer more than 30 of them, and, back in 2007, it trademarked the name “Barcade,” Kermizian said.

“We’ve seen a lot of places open in the last few years, mostly urban and some college towns — pretty much every city you could think of,” he said. “It’s been pretty crazy: Denver, Portland, Texas. It’s cool. It shows that there’s an interest in these classic arcade games.”
