Oregon is the third busiest state when it comes to geothermal energy development.

The Annual U.S. Geothermal Power Production and Development Report shows that the industry currently has 3,187 megawatts of installed capacity — more than any other country in the world.

Oregon is the third busiest state when it comes to geothermal projects under development, according to the report, though the state lags well behind the nation’s geothermal leaders: Nevada and California.

Oregon has less than a megawatt of installed capacity up and running, but the report cites 16 geothermal projects underway, mostly by Ormat Technologies. In all the state has the potential to generate as much as 109 megawatts of energy from geothermal power, according to the report.
