The company filed paperwork late last month with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to change the project to an export terminal, potentially making Oregon a hub for natural gas producers looking to tap lucrative markets in Asia.
The effort promises to put Oregon in the center of the national debate over whether it makes sense to export North America’s burgeoning supplies of natural gas, or husband the cheap resource for domestic energy security at a time when petroleum prices seem destined to move ever higher.
