A group of government leaders from Oregon, Washington, California and British Columbia formed a plan to create 1 million clean economy jobs by 2020.
The group commissioned a study, released Tuesday, to put a value the economic contributions made by the three-state, one-province region’s clean economy sector. The study, completed by Canadian firm Globe Advisors and The Center for Climate Strategies in Washington, D.C., found that the sector was worth $47 billion in 2010 and could grow to $2.3 trillion by 2020.
The report comes with an action plan, outlining steps each jurisdiction should take to support the clean-sector economic growth including retrofitting government-owned buildings for better efficiency and renewable energy, purchasing alternative-fuel vehicles for government fleets, and setting clean energy policies that encourage the private sector to take similar steps.
