After five weeks of public meetings, Trimet scaled back its sweeping service cuts proposal.

Of course, TriMet’s refined proposal for service cuts and fare changes appears to be based as much on hope and prayers as it is on revenue forecasts. 

TriMet still plans to save $8.7 million by eliminating fare zones, including the free rail zone in downtown Portland, and move to a flat fare system, while increasing the price of most fares. However, it has reversed its initial proposal to allow only one-way-only transfers.
