Two Eugene bartenders felt they weren’t honoring their commitment to local, organic ingredients behind the bar, so they created their own soda, called Indie Pop.

Independently, [Melanie] Mikell and [Richard] Geil abandoned the high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors of commercial mixers and began experimenting with making their own, reinventing soda as a beverage made from organic sugar cane and seasonal fruit juices.

After about four years producing and selling the soda out of the kitchens of their respective employers, Mikell and Geil — acquaintances in the local restaurant scene — combined their efforts last year to produce mostly organic, natural sodas.
