Diabetes device maker DexCom acquired Portland data management startup SweetSpot Diabetes Care for $8.5 million.
SweetSpot’s technology tracks and stores data from diabetes meters and other devices and allows patient and doctors to access the information. The two-year-old SweetSpot will operate as a DexCom subsidiary. It plans to maintain and scale up its Portland office, which now employs a handful of workers.
Partnering its platform with DexCom’s devices will fuel its growth, chief executive Chris Logan said. California-based DexCom markets a meter that frequently measures patients’ blood glucose levels. SweetSpot’s technology will allow users to retrieve that data.
