Portland’s hospitality industry powered through the recession, and is looking strong in 2012.

 

“The economy is clearly recovering, from a travel perspective,” says Brian McCartin, executive vice president of Travel Portland, the trade association that works to persuade conventions to land in Portland.

In fact, for the more than 30 hotels in what Travel Portland considers the central city –which includes the Oregon Convention Center in Northeast –2011 brought the third-highest occupancy ever. The highest-occupancy years were pre-recession 2006 (No. 2) and 2007 (No. 1).
