Amid a still sluggish real estate market, Oregon housing permits remain mired thousands per month below the heights of five years ago. Permits fell 2% in Oregon in 2010 while gaining 4% nationwide. September year-to-date, single-family starts fell 13%, but multi-family units, typically rentals, rose 66% – more pronounced than national trends. Permits in the West, South and Midwest were largely flat year-to-date, but slipped 9.8% in the Northeast.
