After years of gang activity and disrepair, residents of Portland’s Woodlawn neighborhood could see a boost in development from new businesses.
[New businesses are] helping revitalize Woodlawn, a ragged neighborhood sandwiched between the manufacturing plants on Columbia Boulevard and the trendy condos on perpetually gentrifying Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. After years of neglect, Woodlawn — specifically, the tiny business district along Northeast Dekum Street known as the Dekum Triangle — is poised to become the next hot neighborhood.
“There are very few places where you can go and make an impact, so this is ripe for the picking,” said Dana DeKlyen, a senior projects manager at the Portland Development Commission.
