Rules could stomp winery events


Lane County says local wineries need to apply for special-use permits to host events.

Local wineries that host weddings, concerts and other events to build a customer base may now need to apply for a special-use permit, according to Lane County’s land management division.

Last October, the division sent a letter to 15 area wineries encouraging any winery planning more than one special event in a three-month period to “avoid running afoul of state regulations” by applying to the county for a special use permit.

Several local winery managers said they’re working with the county on this, but they’re confused by the state and county requirements.
