The launch of the MAX Green Line opens up a new route from Clackamas Town Center to downtown Portland, and advocates of the line are already seeing the local benefits.

Just across the street from Clackamas Town Center, for instance, an apartment complex that integrates mass transit into its planning – the first of its kind in Clackamas County – is fast taking shape. The aptly named Town Center Station consists of 52 rental units specifically aimed at lower-income retail, service and factory workers who won’t need an automobile to get to work.

The ability to be car-free – practically unheard of in any of the region’s suburban areas – earned Town Center Station the county’s first reduced parking-ratio requirement.
